What Must I Do?
If you were to ask 10 different people "What Must I Do To Be Saved?", it is possible that you may receive 10 different answers. We know that all 10 cannot be true because there is only one written plan of salvation in the word of God. The purpose of this page is to help inform those who want to ensure they are following God's divine plan for man's salvation.
Becoming a Christian
The Bible teaches that there are certain steps one must be taken in order to access the grace of God ( Rom. 5:1-2 ), thereby bringing about salvation and at the same time making one a Christian, a member of the church ( Acts 2:47 ).
| HEAR – Rom. 10:17 |
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
|
| BELIEVE – Heb. 11:6 |
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
|
| REPENT - Luke 5:32 |
I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
|
| CONFESS – Rom. 10:10 |
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
|
| BAPTISM - Acts 2:41 |
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
|
Baptism (being born again) is necessary ( John 3:3-7, 1 Peter 3:21 ). The word of God permits baptism 24/7 ( Acts 16:30-33, Acts 2-41 ). After being baptized, the Lord adds saints to his church ( Matt 16:18, Acts 2:47 ).
Jesus Christ himself told us that he is the way and that no one can come to the Father except through him. Here's a pictorial view of what being baptized into Christ Jesus means for you and I:
Once Saved Always Saved
After obeying God's divine plan of salvation, it is important that the Christian live faithfully ( Rev. 2:10 ). The Bible does not support the doctrine of "once saved always saved" in fact, the Bible teaches the possibility of falling from the grace of God. For instance:
- The apostle Paul said he had to guard himself, lest after preaching to others he himself should be a castaway ( 1 Cor. 9:27 )
- The Christians at Corinth were cautioned to take heed lest they fall ( 1 Cor. 10:12 )
- Some of the Galatians were told they had "fallen from grace" ( Gal. 5:4 )
- The Hebrew writer warned: "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God" ( Heb. 3:12 )
- The apostle Peter spoke of those who had known Christ Jesus, but who had reverted to their old ways ... and said it would have been better for them never to have known the truth ( 2 Pet. 2:20-21 ).
